Rated PG for language and violence.

When Colonial Senator Gil Prater of Alpha Centauri receives a wanted poster with his name on it, he calls in Nick Walker, U.F. Marshal. Nick travels 2000 miles to investigate the threat and walks into a whirlwind of conflicting characters and agendas.

Within hours of his arrival he finds himself at odds with the local police chief, a pair of small-time thugs, a Rukranian mercenary…and even the Senator himself seems a little flaky.

Aided by beautiful journalist Cybele Gannon, Nick tries to make sense of a baffling case who wants the Senator dead, and why? Or is the whole thing just a giant hoax?

Nick quickly realizes he can trust no one, then learns the stakes are even bigger than he ever imagined. The only person he can truly count on is his fiancée Suzanne, but she’s back home in Trimmer Springs. He’s called for backup, but backup is always late.

This time he’s on his own.

Bounty Hunter at Binary Flats Nick Walker UF Marshal Book 4 eBook John Bowers Duncan Long

Nick Walker is still in Trimmer Springs on Alpha Centauri. AC is still a frontier world amd as such Marshalls are limited in numbers. Nick isn't quite sure why he was called in to deal with a potential assassination. It just doesn't feel right. It's also hard to figure out who's good, bad or just indifferent. Thing's keep going south till he gets to Binary Flats ( Named of the dual suns) then everything just gets worse! This is the fourth Nick Walker book, so you may be wondering how it stands up to the others or if it can be read as a stand alone novel. Yes, it actually would work well as a stand alone. As for a comparison to the previous Books? While I thoroughly enjoyed the first three and this has a more complex story line, more twists with same strong characters and very brisk action. It's a delightful to read as the first and just a fun read.

More Nick Walker! WOOHOOO
I've been waiting for more from John Bowers, and this one did not disappoint! Good characters, good plot, a bit of a mystery, and some action all mixed together to form one most excellent read. Nick gets more badass as he spends more time as a Marshall (I think I see a bit of Raylan Givens coming out in him), and his character is growing in depth. It was good to see Nathan and Kristina from Sirian Summer make another appearance. I find myself wishing I could live in Nick's 'verse!
I would recommend this series
John Bowers has a real talent for writing action and this book is no disappointment. Good old Nick is at the top of his game in this one. I can't wait for the next!
This is the fourth book in the series written just before the start of a major war. Although sci-fi, it is a classic detective story written with a tinge of western. It is a well worth the price. good book, well written. buy it.
So far this is a 6 book series. Individually, they are 3 stars for western sci-fi. So far in the series ( I have just started book6), it has the potential to be an excellent character sturdy of the evolution of the hero. Almost, art worthy (less boring than Proust or some others not as political as Heinlein or philosophical as Clarke but miles aboe Doc Smith)
Interesting book, with the main character the most interesting part of the book. It is difficult to see the political. scene where somebody like he can walk around like a Wild West gun slinger and the body count slowly adds up. He is often amusing and the violent action pulls the book - and the reader - steadily along. If one accepts these assumptions the book is recommended - I'll buy the next one also.
OK, same song 4th verse! Once more Mr. Bowers, in Volume 4 of the Nick Walker series, has created an interesting and exciting story. Nick would have been comfortable as a hard-boiled detective in 20th Century Chicago, or as a 19th Century Marshall in Dodge City !! I'm 73 now, and addicted to $SF for over 60 of those years. I am so glad that I discovered Mr. Bowers. If I live long enough, I intend to read every book he writes or has written (something. I have done for only 2 other SF authors, Kieth Laumer and Robert Anson Heinlein)!
